Converting Presentation Slides From Canva to Google Slides
So, you'll be giving a presentation to your coworkers on an informal topic, and you’ve been given permission to be creative rather than using the company’s standard boring slides.
Canva to the rescue, right?!? So, you’ve found the perfect templates, created an eye-catching and informative presentation, and you’re ready to go… and then your colleague swings by the office to inform you, at the 9th hour, that you have to use Google Slides. Ugh!
There's actually a quick and easy fix for this, so let’s get started.
Before we begin, this tutorial assumes that your Canva slides were created using the 16:9 ratio, which is also the default ratio in Google slides.
To convert your presentation from Canva to Google Slides, you’ll first need to log into Canva and then open your presentation. From there, you’ll select the SHARE button at the top right corner.
A drop-down menu will appear, then scroll down until you see the option to DOWNLOAD, and select it. You’ll notice several options appear right away.
Select PNG, then scroll down to SELECT PAGES and choose ALL PAGES. If you only wanted a few of the slides, you have the option to select them individually, too.
Next, you’ll want to open Google Slides in a new tab. Click on Start A New Presentation (Blank). The first slide will appear, and Google Slides will normally default to the title page for the Simple Light presentation theme.
Back to the Google Slides title page–Be sure slide #1 is highlighted (top left), then select SLIDE from the menu bar, click on APPLY LAYOUT, and several options will magically appear. Select BLANK at the bottom.
You’ll notice the text boxes from the Simple Light presentation theme have disappeared, and you’re left with a blank canvas.
Go back to the menu bar, select SLIDE again, and this time, you’ll want to choose DUPLICATE. And voila… another new, blank slide appears beneath the first one. Repeat this process again and again until you have the same number of blank slides in Google Slides as you have for your finished Canva project.
Now, go back into your Canva presentation, and manually drag and drop each Canva slide onto your blank Google Slides. You’ll need to resize them until the Google Slide is completely covered. It’s important to remember that once your pages are converted, they will be static (meaning, they cannot be edited).
This conversion process only takes a few minutes, and your coworkers will be amazed at how creative and beautiful your slide presentation looks!
